A fun new dish to bring to the next winter gathering

I love adding seasonal flavors to dishes that everybody already knows and loves. The combination of fig jam, orange zest, and pure maple syrup adds warms flavors to these crispy baked chicken wings that everybody will love. Not only are they delicious, but they are super easy to make and they come out a beautiful deep orange color. Top with freshly chopped green onion for even more beauty.

These maple fig glazed chicken wings are best fresh out of the oven, but can still be thoroughly enjoyed once cool.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs cut chicken wings⁣⁣

  • 1 tbsp flour⁣⁣

  • 1 tsp baking powder⁣⁣

  • 1/2 tsp salt⁣⁣

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper⁣⁣

  • Fig sauce:
  • 1/3 cup fig jam⁣⁣

  • 3 tbsp pure maple syrup⁣

  • 1/2 tsp orange zest⁣⁣

  • 1 inch knob fresh ginger, finely minced⁣⁣

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika

  • Garnish
  • 4 green onions, chopped

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 425 F and prep the pan. Cover a baking sheet with tin foil (optional) then place a wire rack on top. Grease the wire rack well.⁣⁣
  • Prep the wings. Pat them to dry them completely. Then place them in a bowl with flour, baking powder, salt and pepper and mix to combine so the wings are completely coated. ⁣⁣
  • Bake. Place the wings on the wire rack and bake for 20 minutes. Flip the wings and bake again for 15-20 minutes.⁣⁣
  • Make the fig sauce by simply combining all the ingredients for the sauce in a mixing bowl large enough to toss the wings.
  • Toss with sauce. Once the wings are done, allow them to cool for a few minutes. Place half the wings in the bowl with the sauce and gently mix to combine. Transfer the saucy wings back on the wire rack. Repeat the same process with the remainder of the wings. ⁣⁣
  • Broil on high for 2-3 minutes until crispy brown bits start to appear. Watch closely to prevent them from burning.
  • Garnish with green onion before serving.

Notes

  • Note that the original recipe serves about 4 people. This is based on serving these wings as an appetizer, NOT a main course. One serving is about 5 cut wings.
